Held annually in Berlin, this year’s IFA proved to be bigger and better, and our team were there on the ground, experiencing first-hand the latest tech news and product releases from big brands including AEG, Bosch, Miele, Samsung and Haier.

At IFA 2023, sustainability was the central theme across brands, with innovative and Impact-reducing materials and technologies adopted to drive sustainable living. Greater convenience in the kitchen was also the main feature of new cooking appliances like cooktops and ovens, and with a knock-to-open fridge, the future of life at home looks set to be even more incredible. Check out all the news on these innovations below.

TREND 1: SUSTAINABILITY

With the climate crisis top of mind, reducing resource use and environmental impact has been prominent amongst brands and suppliers. This is obvious with the shift in the dishwasher manufacturing sector, as well as the laundry realm.

INNOVATION: ECO-FRIENDLY DISHWASHERS

  • Default ECO Mode

Well-known companies like Asko, Miele, Haier and Beko have began adopting the ECO washing mode as the default setting in their dishwashers, with the intention of guiding consumers to energy-saving functions.

  • Grade A Beko Dishwashers

The latest Beko dishwashers have received a Grade A rating for their exceptional energy efficiency. Beko’s Grade A dishwashers boast performance that uses up to 20% less energy compared to older models.

  • Bosch’s CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) Reduced Steel

As part of its new Green Collection, Bosch have unveiled its new CO2-reduced steel kitchen appliances. The Bosch Green Collection’s manufacturing process, with its CO2-reduced steel, results in a build that features up to 33% less CO2 when compared to traditional production materials 1.

INNOVATION: EMISSIONS REDUCING LAUNDRY

  • LAUNDRY FILTERS REDUCE MICROPLASTICS

Textiles from our clothes account for 35% of the world’s primary microplastic pollution. Every time clothes are washed, up to 700,000 plastic fibres are released from washing machines and into our waterways, causing detrimental consequences to aquatic wildlife and humans alike with plastic-tainted fish and seafood.

To tackle the problem of microplastics in our oceans, several brands including AEG, Miele, Samsung, TCL and Hisense have introduced the use of microplastics filters with their new washing machines. The microplastics filters trap and collect microplastics from clothes and garments that would have otherwise been released into our waterways, preventing the equivalent of many plastic bottles entering waterways every year. Once the filter and collection tank is full, it simply needs to be cleaned to ensure maximum effectiveness.

  • AI ASSISTED LAUNDRY

At IFA, Samsung unveiled its new all-in-one BESPOKE AI™ Washer Dryer Combo. Powered by Digital Inverter Heat Pump Technology, this washer dryer eliminates the troubles of moving your laundry from the washer to the dryer. This washer dryer boasts an incredible SpaceMax™ capacity with a 25kg washing and 13kg drying capacity.

Featuring Miele’s unique Knock2Open door (also available in Miele dishwashers), with two short knocks, the drying cabinet opens hands-free. No free hands, no problem, just knock twice to open.
